Happy Fourth of July, Americans

Friday, July 4th, 2008

fireworks.jpgCongrats on you Independence, Americans! How about celebrating in style?

Instead of tacky flag tee shirts and such, throw on a comfy (but flattering), cotton dress in either red or navy blue. Then, add some simple accessories - clutch, necklace, sandals - in the other color.

Play around with layering, or search for trendy color-block patterns using, of course, some combination of red, white, and blue.

However you dress, enjoy your day!

Celebrity Carnival: Mischa Barton in Costume

Monday, June 9th, 2008

mischa-barton.jpg Although Mischa Barton looks sweet in her fairy get-up at A Time for Heroes Celebrity Carnival, benefiting the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation, it seems that she was the only one that got the wear-a-costume memo. Either someone was playing a trick on her, or, I suppose, she was just really in the mood to wear face paint and wings.

I’ll admit to having donned fairy wings in the summer before, but I was 18, with lots of friends, and not surrounded by paparazzi.

She sure had confidence, though, I’ll give her that!

Bloomie’s was chosen as the top honor from department store CEOs’ nominations based on meeting the criteria: “an enviable profile through branding, differentiated positioning and powerful messaging; successful developments and executions of product, store and service innovation strategies; delivery of an extraordinary in-store experience; offers of excellent customer service; and strong financial performance.”

Lauren Bush’s Feed Bag Hits the Red Carpet

Thursday, May 29th, 2008

Okay. I love your Feed Bags, Lauren Bush, but don’t you think that there is a time and a place for self-promotion, even if it is for a good cause?

lauren_bush_feed_bag.jpg

I’m just not sure that 1. the bag goes with red carpet wear, or 2. a pink, Swarovski-studded carpet for a movie premiere (Sex and the City) is the perfect location for bringing up the topic of starving children.

Adam Sandler and Paul Mitchell Offer You a Free Hairdo

Friday, May 23rd, 2008

Would you like a free haircut and style this weekend? All you have to do is be lucky enough to live in one of the ten cities nationwide that will be visited by a Paul Mitchell Mobile Salon.

Oddly enough, this random promotion is for an upcoming movie release - go figure. Adam Sandler wrote, produced, and starred in You Don’t Mess with the Zohan that will be in theaters June 6.

The connection between an Adam Sandler movie and free haircuts? The movie is about an Israeli commando that fakes his own death in order to pursue his dream of doing hair. Apparently, he also makes extra dollars by performing “special services” for his clients, in a back room.

Curious how this plot comes together, but also super jealous of people that live inadam_sandler_don__t_mess_with_zohan.jpg one of these ten locales and can take advantage of a free Paul Mitchell ‘do:

Step Up is “a national network of women dedicated to strengthening community resources for women and girls,” and on yesterday took time to award female celebrities who were inspirational and a positive role model for young women and teens.

Kristen Bell Forgets Sarah Marshall, but Not Her Fashion Sense

Wednesday, April 16th, 2008

While out about promoting her new movie Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Kristen Bell has been living the life of a high-fashion starlet. Check her out look awesome in every outfit possible … I just hope that little black jacket is faux leather on Miss Sexiest Vegetarian.

Forgetting Sarah Marshall hits theaters everywhere this Friday, April 18. Her co-stars for the comedy include Mila Kunis (That ’70s Show) and Jason Segel (How I Met Your Mother).

Diane Keaton Wore Her Favorite Look … Again

Wednesday, April 16th, 2008

This weekend Diane Keaton reminded us that she loves femi-masculine wear, bowler-ish hats, and drooping glasses as she hung out with Lisa Eisner at a dinner hosted by Bottega Veneta and Barneys New York, in honor of Albert Maysles’s new book A Maysles Scrapbook.

Well, nobody can say that she doesn’t have a personal style …

Lisa Eisner is a art book publisher, photographer, and fashion magazine veteran. Albert Maysles is a documentary photographer and cinematographer.

Victoria’s Secret Model Pulls Off Near-Flawless Look

Friday, April 4th, 2008

Victoria’s Secret model Selita Ebanks attended the © Murakami exhibition opening at the Brooklyn Museum on April 3. Her look is fabulous! Her skin tone is a perfect shade to pull off silver as a neutral, and a touch of pink is never a bad thing. Pulling off a matching makeup and outfit style is near impossible, but this beauty did it like a pro. With lips the same shade as her shoes, lower eyeliner picking up the metallic sheen of her dress, and no other colors at all this look is exactly right.

I only wish that her dress had finished edges so that it looked less like she had just draped on some torn fabric, and more ike a purposeful fashion.

Style Critique: Danity Kane

Tuesday, April 1st, 2008

The girls of Danity Kane - Puff Daddy’s female creation from MTV’s Making the Band - held an official CD release party this past Friday night, March 28, at the Bank Nightclub at Bellagio, Las Vegas.

Diddy was nowhere to be seen, and my guess is their fashion stylist was hiding out to. At first glance, the girls look cute and stylish, but upon further observation you realize a few notes that the stylist missed.

danity-kane.jpg

Critique from left to right, in this picture:

1. Aundrea Fimbres: Definitely one of the more naturally beautiful of the group, unfortunately this dress is battling with her womanly curves. In fact, in photographs taken from behind, her lower curves are peeking out as a result of her upper curves hiking the mini-dress too high.

2. Shannon Bex: One of the less-known of the five, she came closest to make good fashion choices. However, underneath this white, silky dress she wore a nude color bra that was neither delicate nor a match for her skin tone. And since the top half of the dress was not a perfect fit, everytime she twisted or turned photographers caught this laundry-day bra.

3. Dawn Richard: The reddish-orange dress is not bad at all; it matches her bandmates’ nicely. But then send your eyes southward. Her shoes are black with red stripes and pink bows. What was the thought process there?

4. Aubrey O’Day: The most recognizable face from the MTV show was dancing all night at above-the-floor levels, allowing snapshots up her dress. Aside from that, it just is not suited for her frame. It cuts her already-petite vertical line in half, making her look short and almost dumpy.

5. D. Woods: What can I say? I love the dress. I loved it first when Paris Hilton wore it two weeks ago … with better shoes. Speaking of shoes, D. took hers off promptly after entering the bar and proceeded to dance around, pose for pictures, and enjoy the night … barefoot in a Vegas bar.

If You Thought There Was Nothing Crazier: Heatherette and M.A.C. Team Up

Monday, March 24th, 2008

Question: When does spoiled reality show star Brittny Gastineau fall into the shadow and fail to get mentioned as a party attendee?

Answer: When the event being held is to announce the collaboration of outrageous Heatherette designer duo of Richie Rich and Traver Rains with crazy, fun makeup company M.A.C. Cosmetics. Oh, and don’t forget that Kim Kardashian - Brittny after eight straight cans of Red Bull - is the spokesmodel.

richie_rich_and_traver_rains.jpg

Your local M.A.C. store should have all of Heatherette’s glitterific creations in stock now, as of Thursday, March 20. Plus, products are available for online ordering as well.

Runway Finale: Fan Favorite Christian Takes the Win

Wednesday, March 5th, 2008

It is with bittersweet tenacity that I watched the season finale of Project Runway this last hour. Of course this is the moment that I have been waiting for all season - to find out who would win and to see the top three fabulous catwalk collections - but as it comes to an end I am reminded that this is the last Wednesday evening where I can enjoy new episodes of both America’s Next Top Model and Project Runway.

But enough stalling (and whining) already.

CHRISTIAN WON!

Christian, with his mere 21 years, will receive a grand prize package that begins with an editorial feature in an issue of ELLE magazine. He will also walk away with a cash prize of $100,000 from TRESemmé professional hair care to start his own line, and will have the opportunity to sell a fashion line on Bluefly.com. Saturn gave him a 2008 three-door, Saturn Astra, too.

The biggest prize of all, however, was probably guest judge Victoria Beckham - who he all but declared his love for - saying that she was “such a huge fan” and would be honored to wear anything that he made anytime.

There was foreshadowing to Christian as the winner including: his being the headlining designer; his collection had voiceover and backstage footage during the episode, and the others had none; and photographs of his fashions were leaked onto the Internet before tonight’s airing. Even though, I never gave up hope that Rami had a chance … that is until Heidi said:

“The winner of Project Runway
season four is … CHRISTIAN!”

Sexy and Sweet: Two Actresses Show Off the Looks

Wednesday, March 5th, 2008

There were so many random faces and names at the Never Back Down Los Angeles Premiere last night that I could not figure out who was just visiting and who’s in this upcoming flick.

Porn star Jenna Jameson was there, but so was business and fashion woman Kimora Lee Simmons. Then there was Jared Padalecki with a fiancee, professional fighter Tito Ortiz, bad actor/good looker Paul Walker, and quite a few lesser known actors and actresses, too.

Seems that the film is a high school version of Fight Club, but I am still confused as to what most of these people were doing there. It must be a fantastic movie … or a slow week in Hollywood.

Whatever their reason, the women turned out the fashions!

Here, Amber Heard (pink dress) and Emily O’Brienat displayed a perfect dichotomy of sexy and sweet.
