Day 2 of Madrid Bridal Show

Thursday, May 22nd, 2008

I’m less in love today than I was yesterday with Madrid’s wedding fashion shows. Model Lily Collins - also doesn’t quite enthrall me as Bar Refaeli did. But, when all is said and done, Spain’s bridal getups are Godiva next America’s Hershey’s … both cravable, but one slightly more innovative.

Madrid Bridal Show Featuring Model Bar Refaeli

Wednesday, May 21st, 2008

In Madrid, Spain today, 23-year-old Israeli model Bar Refaeli walked for the Puerta De Europa Bridal Fashion Show. Not only am I now completely in love with Bar, but I am making plans now to head to Madrid if and when I need a wedding gown and bridesmaids’ dresses.

Whitney Wins America’s Next Top Model

Wednesday, May 14th, 2008

Whitney - yes as in the full figure model - won this season of America’s Next Top Model.

From left to right in this photo is the order the final three dropped: Fatima was out before the final runway; Anya was the last to be eliminated, after walking in a Versace runway show. Whitney, of course, was never cut.

Congrats, Whitney!

Can You Guess Which Top Model Earns the Most?

Sunday, May 4th, 2008

Forbes just announced who the highest paid supermodel was for 2007. Do you know who it was?

Here’s some hints…

* The catwalk diva earned 35 million last year.

* She cut ties with her most well-known contract last year, but continues to make millions.

* She earned more than double Heidi Klum (second highest paid) , even when including Klum’s earnings from Project Runway.

* It is so not Tyra.

* She is 27 years old (but looks well over 30).

* She’s dated a top actor, and now a top football player.

See who this money-making beauty is by clicking below.

Here’s Something Original: A Reality Show About Model Wannabes … Old Ones

Tuesday, April 29th, 2008

I would have loved to be a fly on the wall when the new reality-based series She’s Got the Look was proposed as an “original reality series.”

Yes, I admit, a Top Model replacement was needed as Tyra has continued to spiral into the realm of insanity … which is why I was pleased to watch Tyson Beckford and Nikki Taylor on the new reality-based show about becoming a model called Make Me a Supermodel after Rachel Hunter’s British show of the same name and M.O. … which was completely different from Tyra’s ANTM because it had dudes, too.
she__s_got_the_look.jpg
But really, TV executives, another show that will pick a supposed model above other pretty faces? When was the last time Top Model actually produced a top model? And what was the point of Make Me’s winner Holly Kiser’s prize of a contract with New York Model Management when they also signed runner-ups (losers) Stephanie, Shannon, Ben, Casey, Ronnie and Perry? It could have just been called “Meet the New Faces of New York Model Management.”

So, TV Land, regretting your decision yet? I will begin watching your measly six episode series when it starts on June 4; but I hold little hope for it holding my interest.

Oh. Wait. This one is about old people?

I will definitely be in front of my screen then, because unknown 40-year-old women being discovered is exactly what I would consider “reality” when it comes to the modeling world.

Check out an intro to the ten finalists - six of whom are from California, one from NYC, one from Vegas, and only two from normal life locales. The winner will receive a contract (with Wilhelmina) and a magazine spread (with Self), of course.

Victoria’s Secret Model Pulls Off Near-Flawless Look

Friday, April 4th, 2008

Victoria’s Secret model Selita Ebanks attended the © Murakami exhibition opening at the Brooklyn Museum on April 3. Her look is fabulous! Her skin tone is a perfect shade to pull off silver as a neutral, and a touch of pink is never a bad thing. Pulling off a matching makeup and outfit style is near impossible, but this beauty did it like a pro. With lips the same shade as her shoes, lower eyeliner picking up the metallic sheen of her dress, and no other colors at all this look is exactly right.

I only wish that her dress had finished edges so that it looked less like she had just draped on some torn fabric, and more ike a purposeful fashion.

Surprise! Naomi Campbell Arrested Again for Assault

Thursday, April 3rd, 2008

Supermodel Naomi Campbell was arrested this afternoon at Heathrow Airport, London, England.
naomi-campbell.jpg
Any guesses what her criminal act was?

No, she didn’t throw her cell phone at anyone. She didn’t even physically attack anyone this time.

Diva Naomi Campbell did something super glam to get her in cuffs today: she spat on a police officer at the airport.

The London Metropolitan Police is, of course, not yet confirming who the suspect in custody is, but CNN is confident enough to report that is was her.

Niki Taylor and Tyson Beckford Show Tyra Up

Sunday, March 16th, 2008

If Tyra’s latest episode of America’s Next Top Model (read a recap) exemplified poor taste, then this week’s Make Me A Supermodel was a five-star meal.

In each episode of Bravo TV’s Make Me, sexy supermodel icons Niki Taylor and Tyson Beckford host both male and female wannabes in a realistic photo shoot, a runway show, and an model’s life experience. The photo shoots are fluid, with group shots and individual, and some models getting nixed altogether because the photographer isn’t feeling them. The runway shows are weekly and feature high fashion quirkiness. The experiences have included paparazzi rumors, being brand ambassadors, and winning over the public.
niki-and-tyson.jpg
The newest episode (full recap) - first aired at 10 p.m. EST on Thursday March 13 - showed Tyra and her meat-wearing ANTM crew up!

Three words, from Niki to Tyra: Habitat for Humanity. Also could be translated to: Game on, Tyra!

That’s right, Niki took her last few model contestants down to New Orleans to meet a woman who lost her house. They then spent the day working on the foundations of a new home for this woman with Habitat for Humanity.

Body Found in Seine River: Search for Missing Supermodel Comes to an End

Monday, March 3rd, 2008

Katoucha Niane - the first African woman to gain international fame - was a French supermodel in the 1980s, working for years until she turned her focus toward activism against female mutilation.
katoucha_niane.jpg
Since leaving the modeling world, Niane started a family including three children; wrote a book about her personal, painful circumcision at age 9; and setup her own label.

Niane lived in a houseboat along the Seine River, Paris, France. The same houseboat where, on the morning of February 2, her purse was found untouched, outside of the door. Niane was never again seen … until this weekend.

Missing since her return from a party on February 1, the body of the African-French beauty was retrieved from the Seine this Friday, February 29. Her autopsy shows no signs of katoucha_niane_2.jpgfoul play; police believe that it was an unfortunate accident, that Niane fell into the river.

Niane had worked with Christian Lacroix, was considered a muse for Yves Saint Laurent, and welcomed names such as Cher to her own shows.

The fashion world, Africa, France, women’s rights, and her own three children mourn the loss of an exquisite woman, as the month long mystery of what happened to supermodel Katoucha Niane

Revealed: My New Year’s Eve Dress

Thursday, December 6th, 2007

WARNING: There is a reason that up until this point, I have not posted many - if any - of my own snapshots. I’m not embarrassed of my looks, but I’m no Adriana Lima either. And clearly, I have no photo editing skills. Though if you have already glanced at the included photo, I am sure that you did not need this warning to figure that out.nye_dress.JPG

Last week, I used a mere 50 words to celebrate shopping for holiday dresses. After my Saturday excursion, I was so inclined to reveal my general discoveries and observations (remember? I told you I made up songs and sang them in public to entertain people?). But per the request of commenter Kate, I am now sharing a photo of me wearing the dress that I bought to wear on New Year’s Eve (ask and you shall receive!).

I must have tried on two dozen dresses or more while shopping, needing a massage and a meal by the end of the seven-hour hunt. I nearly bought a $100 sequin and shine number from Arden B, but I had one of those devastating situations where the cut that looks great doesn’t come in the color that does. Gold v-neck flattered the body but washed me out; purple scoop made my skin glow but hid my curves.

When I was about to give up, though, I found this cute number at DEB, which means it was a mere $30! With the dress being that inexpensive, a girl has room to accessorize! So … I promptly went to Piercing Pagoda and bought sparkly earrings and a bracelet to match the brooch.

What do we think? Even if the party is a bore, causing a revolving door, I’ll be a smash hit!

Now, if I can just work out my dating strategy for the evening …

This was my entry to Project Blog this week. Click Here to VOTE! VOTE! VOTE!

Three Fashionable TV Days this Week: Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show Airs Tonight

Tuesday, December 4th, 2007

Wednesday tends to be the main night on television for fashion - with America’s Next Top Model and Project Runway. Sunday is a decent night to catch some style, too - vs-show.jpgVH1 has America’s Most Smartest Model and The Shot back-to-back.

This week, however, is a deluxe fashion viewing week on TV. Victoria’s Secret presents their annual lingerie fashion show tonight, Tuesday December 4, on CBS at 10 p.m.

What can you expect besides the most unwearable bra and panties ever worn by the world’s most gorgeous women bearing enormous, heavy angel wings?

This year Heidi Klum returns to the runway after having a baby with husband Seal, who will be performing. Also performing are the Spice Girls in their debut reunion show and will.i.am. of the Black Eyed Peas (filling in for Kanye West, who canceled in light of his mother’s sudden passing).

Since it was pre-recorded last week, this photo is from this year’s show.

Twiggy Gets Busy: ANTM Finds New Judge

Tuesday, November 27th, 2007

Supermodel Twiggy is apparently highly sought after now that America’s Next Top Model has helped her make a comeback into the spotlight. I’ve loved getting to know the icon that is thetwiggy-and-paulina2.jpg reason women starve themselves to be thin, but now her time has come to an end. Due to scheduling conflicts, the stick-thin model cannot and will not return for another season this fall, for the taping of Cycle 10 of ANTM.

Paulina Porizkova, a Czech-born supermodel, will replace the current Top Model judge on the CW’s hit reality show. Porizkova - who began modeling at the age of 15 - joins current judges Tyra Banks (also creator, star, and executive producer), runway expert J. Alexander (a.k.a. Miss Jay), and fashion photographer (and super hot hottie) Nigel Barker, along with a different special guest judge each week.

Even if you don’t recognize the name, you’ve probably seen her face atleast once. Paulina has been on the covers of hundreds of magazines over the span of two decades, recently competed on Dancing With the Stars, wrote a novel called A Model Summer, and has appeared in several films.
twiggy-and-paulina.jpg
Of Twiggy’s departure from the show after being a regular for five cycles (seasons), executive producer Ken Mok says: “Having an icon like Twiggy lend us her considerable expertise has elevated our show to a whole new level. We wish her well in her endeavors and hope to collaborate with her in future cycles of ANTM as well as other projects.”

Yes, we hear you, Ken, and agree. For I, too, hope to collaborate with Twiggy in the future - she seems kindhearted, perhaps Paulina will be more of a Simon-esque judge.

Just One More Week Until We Must “Make It Work”

Wednesday, November 7th, 2007

It’s in the air, the feel of a season premier. Reruns are replaying constantly; advertisements are project_runway.jpgrunning on a loop; events are being held; the Web site has a live count down ’til show time.

The premier? It’s Project Runway people!

Supermodel Heidi Klum - host of the show, wife of singer Seal, and mom to Henry, Johan, and Leni - attended the Season 4 kick-off and fashion show yesterday in New York’s Lincoln Center along with judge Elle fashion director Nina Garcia (fashion designer Michael Kors will still be judging, but was not in attendance), and mentor, who know has his own reality show as well, Tim Gunn.

While you wait in can’t-concentrate-on-anything-else anticipation for the Wednesday, November 14 at 10 p.m. premier of Season 4, check out a full array of photos from the kick-off event, and stop by the Project Runway official site for bios of this year’s contestants, games, a live countdown, blogs, and more … just make sure your Internet speed is up to snuff because this site needs a fast connection!

Premier of “The Shot” on VH1

Sunday, November 4th, 2007

I have a Top Model addiction. I watch it without fail every Wednesday night, and sometimes more often if there are reruns on. If you ask me why (which people often do) I admit, I don’t enjoy all the cattiness and filler scenes in the beginning half of each episode. What I really enjoy about the show is seeing the final shots.

the-shot.jpgToday, I caught the premier preview of a new show created by the producers of America’s Next Top Model. The Shot, a VH1 reality series follows photographers as they compete against each other in fashion shoot-inspired challenges for a grand prize including $100,000 from Vaseline, a fashion photo spread in Marie Claire magazine, and future work with Victoria’s Secret. So from the prizes, you may have already guessed that an editor from Marie Claire (apparently pronounced Mary) will be a judge throughout, Vicky Secret models will appear as models for the challenges (Marisa Miller is the female model tonight, episode 1), and while watching the one-hour long show you will see the new skin commercial by Vaseline a dozen times.

The first episode didn’t lose me or catch me 100 percent either way, but I will definitely be watching it again. After a nude short challenge, and a team effort on a schooner with Marisa where at least one person gets seasick.

Watch Piper be a crazy, repetitive leader; two foreign boys display two very different personalities; and one model go home after no one wows host and professional fashion photographer Russell James.

Check out the official premier of The Shot - taglined “10 aspiring photographers…30 grueling days…1 shot at a glamorous life in the world of high end fashion photography” - tonight, Sunday November 4 at 10 p.m. on VH1.
