Lauren Bush’s Feed Bag Hits the Red Carpet

Thursday, May 29th, 2008

Okay. I love your Feed Bags, Lauren Bush, but don’t you think that there is a time and a place for self-promotion, even if it is for a good cause?

lauren_bush_feed_bag.jpg

I’m just not sure that 1. the bag goes with red carpet wear, or 2. a pink, Swarovski-studded carpet for a movie premiere (Sex and the City) is the perfect location for bringing up the topic of starving children.

Fashion `Fantastic Four’ Style

Thursday, May 8th, 2008

fantastic-four.JPGFirst, in order to tell you this story, I have to confess something: I watched Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer tonight.

Now that I got past that, here’s how fashion relates …

As the Silver Surfer is flying away, Johnny is the only one that can follow him because Johnny can fly … but only whilst turning into a human torch, thus burning all his clothes.

Reed Richards: Johnny!

Johnny Storm: (touching his tux) But this is Dolce.

Maybe I’m punchy, but I laughed.

Have a Very Heatherette Day (and Prom)

Monday, May 5th, 2008

Traver Rains (right) and Richie Rich (left), the New York City design duo known as Heatherette, who are famous for their elaborately staged and performed runway shows likeheatherette.jpg Fall 2007’s Wizard of Oz inspiration, did not show a collection at the Fall 2008 Fashion Week.

Gossip and fashion snoops ran rampant with theories of Richie and Traver’s breakup, of Heatherette’s demise. But au contraire: Heatherette is alive and kicking … and expanding!

Aside from Richie working on an album (featuring Fergie), the Heatherette boys have been busy designing their own line of makeup with (who else?) MAC. And inspirations are just as crazy-fun with ideas coming from bubble tape and glitter. Plus, the boys say that their new makeup is perfect for the upcoming prom season.

Yes, it’s true: Heatherette has prom on the brain.

Read an exclusive Heatherette interview with ELLEgirl magazine online now!
heatherette_mac.jpgFind out what Traver and Richie wore to their prom (teaser: one went with an era theme; one wore a kilt), get suggestions about how to make yor look your own, and check out pictures (including the one here) from an awesome styling shoot with model-heiress Lydia Hearst.

And stay tuned to Style Fix, because after dishing on what I wore to my proms I hunted down photos of all three …

Kristen Bell Forgets Sarah Marshall, but Not Her Fashion Sense

Wednesday, April 16th, 2008

While out about promoting her new movie Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Kristen Bell has been living the life of a high-fashion starlet. Check her out look awesome in every outfit possible … I just hope that little black jacket is faux leather on Miss Sexiest Vegetarian.

Forgetting Sarah Marshall hits theaters everywhere this Friday, April 18. Her co-stars for the comedy include Mila Kunis (That ’70s Show) and Jason Segel (How I Met Your Mother).

Diane Keaton Wore Her Favorite Look … Again

Wednesday, April 16th, 2008

This weekend Diane Keaton reminded us that she loves femi-masculine wear, bowler-ish hats, and drooping glasses as she hung out with Lisa Eisner at a dinner hosted by Bottega Veneta and Barneys New York, in honor of Albert Maysles’s new book A Maysles Scrapbook.

Well, nobody can say that she doesn’t have a personal style …

Lisa Eisner is a art book publisher, photographer, and fashion magazine veteran. Albert Maysles is a documentary photographer and cinematographer.

Kate Goes Straight: A New Film Look for Kate Hudson

Tuesday, April 1st, 2008

Kate Hudson is out about shooting Bride Wars with Anne Hathaway in the streets of New York City. The adorable Goldie Hawn-spawn, who usually get styled with soft ringlets for films, is seen here dressed for two different scenes in the up-coming movie with sleek layers and bangs.

Is there a look that she can’t pull off?

KATE_HUDSON.jpg

The movie, scheduled to release in 2009, is a romantic comedy about two best friends who become rivals when they schedule their wedding for the same date. Kate and Anne are currently the only cast members listed; Kate is also one of four producers for the film.

`Amelie’ Comes Back as a Fashion Icon

Thursday, March 20th, 2008

Audrey Tautou - the adorable French actress remembered most from the foreign-language, feel-good film Amelie - is hitting the big screen once again.
Priceless_audrey_tautou.jpg
This time, however, she will be breaking away from her usual typecast role as the sweet and innocent girl next door to play a sassy, conniving gold digger in Priceless (Hors de Pris). Her fashion-addicted character Irene lives the life of a high-class Riviera belle, but in order to continue on with this lifestyle attempts to woo and charm a man for his money. In true romantic comedy form, the man that Irene thinks is a well-to-do businessman is nothing more than the local bartender.

Although the plot certainly sounds predictable - (I’m guessing she falls for him, finds out he’s broke, must decide if love is more important than money … and so on) - with a backdrop of Nice and Monaco, you can bet I will be in the theater when it lands in America on March 28!

It’s sure to catch my eye … between Audrey Tautou’s acting, the French language and fashion, and a script that Tautou claims “shows a dark side of society, even if it’s tiny. Behind the diamonds you can find a nasty, dirty thing.”

See you there, Audrey, March 28!

Industry Tidbits: Happenings Around the Fashion World

Tuesday, March 11th, 2008

Here’s a few of the recent occurrences in the fashion biz world that have been caught by my radar and sparked my interest:

* Paulo Melim Andersson, who became creative director of Chloe in October 2006, is no longer with the company. Neither side is commenting right now, but stats show that the label’s sales slowed under Andersson’s direction. fashionable-girl.jpgHannah MacGibbon, 38, who previously worked under Phoebe Philo, has been introduced as Chloe’s new creative mind. MacGibbon will show her first line with the luxury company in Paris Fashion Week, October 2008 for the spring 2009 season.

* Design duo Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana were sentenced the Italian equivalence of approximately $3 million for tax evasion after a third-party distributor of the high-end company sold more than 100,000 D&G pieces under the table. It’s no sweat off their wallet, though. The fashion team is still discussing buying a $38 million-valued former-monastery Italian property. Must be nice.

* Tommy Hilfiger launched a new, interactive site - Dreaming About You - where visitors can have dreams interpreted, talk to a dream expert, confess about their wild dreams, see behind-the-scenes footage of Tommy’s ads and more, and learn about the new line from Tommy Hilfiger including the perfume Dreaming.

* Interior decorator and former president of Anne Klein Design Studio, Burt Wayne, 76, passed away Thursday from cancer complications.
fashion-girl-2.jpg
* Photographer and America’s Next Top Model judge Nigel Barker has been a busy man lately. Barker traveled to Canada to photograph seals in an effort to help bring to light the annual fur hunt going on this month. He also joined with David’s Bridal to establish the perfect prom look for every girl, every body, and every budget.

* Spider-Man Tobey Maguire made headlines when guests of his revealed to the media that he did not allow leather of any kind to enter his house. Celebrities have been seen leaving thousand-dollar handbags, belts, shoes, and more outside the Maguire mansion.

“Sex and the City” Photo Shoot with Annie Leibovitz for Vogue

Saturday, March 8th, 2008

Famed photographer Anne Leibovitz has been running around New York City with Sarah Jessica “Carrie” Parker and Chris “Big” Noth for a Vogue magazine shoot of the Sex and the City characters that will soon be seen on the big screen.

They were on 5th Avenue. Then they headed to a row boat, out on the water. Most people are having fun talking about SJP fell during this shoot, but here are some new, more flattering pics of the city set:

Sexy and Sweet: Two Actresses Show Off the Looks

Wednesday, March 5th, 2008

There were so many random faces and names at the Never Back Down Los Angeles Premiere last night that I could not figure out who was just visiting and who’s in this upcoming flick.

Porn star Jenna Jameson was there, but so was business and fashion woman Kimora Lee Simmons. Then there was Jared Padalecki with a fiancee, professional fighter Tito Ortiz, bad actor/good looker Paul Walker, and quite a few lesser known actors and actresses, too.

Seems that the film is a high school version of Fight Club, but I am still confused as to what most of these people were doing there. It must be a fantastic movie … or a slow week in Hollywood.

Whatever their reason, the women turned out the fashions!

Here, Amber Heard (pink dress) and Emily O’Brienat displayed a perfect dichotomy of sexy and sweet.

Rachel Bilson Premiered “Jumper” and New Bangs in Japan Today

Tuesday, February 26th, 2008

Rachel Bilson a.k.a. Summer from The O.C. was in Japan today with costar Hayden Christensen and a new ‘do. The shrinking brunette beauty debuted a new look, complete with bangs and a seemingly fuller head of hair.

What’s everyone think? Too much hair for a tiny little body? Smokin’ hot no matter what’s under her cap? Makes her look more mature?

Here’s the new look on the left, and her original style (as seen on MTV’s TRL last week) on the right:

Actress Megan Fox Shows Off the Ubiquitous Spring Top

Friday, February 22nd, 2008

The gorgeous Megan Fox shows off a style that is everywhere right now. The Transformers actress - who, at age 21, is crazy young for her looks - wore this shiny, flip-front dress to the Versace show during Milan Fashion Week on Thursday.

megan_fox.jpg

Grab a shirt of this style, in a color that flatters your skin tone, and you will surely have a new fave outfit for a night on the town. This cut - fitted on the sides, but slightly loose through the front - has potential to add a little curviness to those who lack, or hide and smooth a fuller tummy. Just be sure to try it on to see what it does for your body; don’t be a sucker for a trend!

Ready for Something New? Meet Tilda Swinton

Wednesday, February 13th, 2008

You may not recognize the name Tilda Swinton, but look closely because I am going bet that you have seen her face a time or two (shown here arriving at this weekend’s Orange British Academy Film Awards).

tilda-swinton.jpgBorn Katherine Matilda Swinton, this British actress who is approaching her 50s is finally beginning to make her mark in the English-speaking world of movies. Germany has known of this unique beauty for a long time, but in America, we didn’t recognize her talent until her 2001 award-winning performance in The Deep End.

Swinton has been said to prefer art to fame, which would explain her quirky role picks including: 2000’s The Beach with Leonardo DiCaprio; Vanilla Sky in 2001 with Tom Cruise, Penelope Cruz, and Cameron Diaz; 2002’s Adaptation with Nicholas Cage and Meryl Streep; and Broken Flowers with Bill Murray in 2005.

Last year, in 2007, she struck audiences with another Best Actress award-winning role when she hit screens as the lead female in the legal thriller Michael Clayton.

Keep your eyes on the lookout this year for this porcelain-skinned dame: she has five movies set to hit theaters thus far in 2008.

Where to see Tilda Swinton in 2008:
Burn After Reading; The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian; The Curious Case of Benjamin Button; Phantasmagoria: The Visions of Lewis Carroll; and Come Like Shadows

Where to see Tilda Swinton in rentals:
The War Zone; The Beach; Possible Worlds; The Deep End; Vanilla Sky; Adaptation; Young Adam; Thumbsucker; The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe; Julia; and Michael Clayton

Hayden Does Two Great Dresses in One Day

Sunday, February 10th, 2008

hayden_panettiere2.jpgIs it really fair to be this adorable, and have a conscious, and be talented, and have everything else that Heroes star Hayden Panettiere has?

The 58th Berlin International Film Festival has been going on this week and weekend, and Miss Save the Whales Again was there today, February 10, to promote her new feature film Fireflies in the Garden which also stars Julia Roberts and Ryan Reynolds.

During the day, Hayden wore a shorter, shinier number for a photocall. At night, on the red carpet, she donned a long, black gown that made her 18-year-old body look years ahead of itself.

I love how Hayden tied her two looks together: her hair stayed the same, and both dresses were backless. This is how a double-event day is done!
