Do or Don’t: Guns on Girly Tee Shirt

Thursday, July 10th, 2008

Ukrainian dancer Karina Smith wore a large gun on the front of her tee July 9, at the opening night gala for Outfest 2008 in L.A., CA.

karina-smirnoff.jpg

Jokes about lesbians having big guns aside, what kind of fashion choice (or lack there of) was this? “Gossip gangster,” written on the shirt, may not be the worst phrase, and I can appreciate the twist on the shoulder, but really? A gun, Karina? In a time when people are being shot in the streets over their iPods it is the worst fashion taste possible to make light of the weapon’s power.

Agree or disagree?

Purse Confusion: Do I Like It or Not?

Wednesday, June 4th, 2008

I’m so very confused. I usually detest Balenciaga’s creations, but I usually love art-inspired prints and florals. So what, pray tell, do I think of this Balenciaga floral clutch?

Your Host (me) Attempts to Be Stella McCartney

Friday, March 21st, 2008

fabric-folklore-floral.jpgI am still dreaming about Stella McCartney’s Impressionistic floral print that she used on her $1,000+ goodies for spring 2008.
fabric-dorothy-damask.gif
In my attempt to hunt down some fabric that I could use to sew my own version (yes, I am that crafty/nerdy) I have found a few that are almost there. Nothing yet is quite perfect, but those seen here are my top choices thus far.

All of these are available for purchase at ReproDepot; most are available in other colors, too.

Any thoughts??? Once I get home, and charge my camera battery, I will share with you the pattern and fabric that I am currently working on!

Third Times a Charm: Jenny, Ali, Now Paris Wear the Same Dress

Wednesday, January 23rd, 2008

What is it about this dress? Sure, it’s cute. But after Jenny McCarthy wore it in black and Ali Larter wore it in white both in September, perhaps Paris should have gone a different route.

What do you think? Who did the dress look best on? What color would you rock? Or does it leave a bad taste in your mouth regardless of the celebrity or shade?

Bai Ling: Not a Fashion Worst

Thursday, January 3rd, 2008

My goal today is simple: to prove to you that actress Bai Ling does not deserve to make any “worst dressed of 2007″ lists (and to encourage you to vote for me in Project Blog).

It’s been said of the 37-year-old, Chinese star that she’ll wear what she wants, she is who she is, and that nobody can change her style. But it has also been said (more often than not) that somebody should step in and try.

I disagree. Check out these 14 eye-catching, self-styled outfits that Bai Ling wore over the course of 2007.

Before you quickly judge, take note:

1. There is not one nipple, crotch, or other “no-no spot” slip.

2. Clearly, she has fun - in her poses and through her clothing. It’s apparent to me that she is not boring and that she enjoys fashion.

3. Although she is oft scantily clad, she doesn’t bear the goodies all the time. Besides, she has quite the body!

4. This chickadee sometimes stops at three or four parties in one night, but do you see her sloppy drunk, falling down, makeup running, …

5. Don’t forget that she is from China. Ever seen an Asian teen girl dressed anime-style? Giant ponytails, little girl accessories, bright colors, candy jewelry?

Have I convinced you yet that she shouldn’t make any worst dressed lists? Well, how about the fact that she made it through 2007 without a DUI, without getting pregnant, without shaving her head, without …

Guessing Game Fun

Here’s another game for you: Can you guess the career of this plaid pants-wearing man? How about the relationship between him and these two lovely women (and no, the one in the middle is not Jenna Bush)?

TREND REVIEW: Tie a Ribbon ‘Round Your Neck

Saturday, November 24th, 2007

Here’s a photo yearbook of just a small smattering of the celeb sightings and appearances in the past year where the famous female had a bow - of any varing size - around or near her neck.

It’s proof not only that celebrities are slaves to trends, but also that not all of them can figure out how to style an outfit! I have some faves and some not-so-much-ers … but I want to hear what you guys think: Who rocked this choker-esque look and who ruined it?

Ali and Jenny Sitting in a Tree …

Tuesday, September 25th, 2007

ali-larter.jpgIt should be no secret by now that I have a thing for Heroes doppleganger Ali Larter, seeing as how I mention her often. I have also touched upon the silver sparkly trend, particularly noting that Jenny McCarthy pulled off the just-a-touch of shine look perfectly for hosting Pure night club’s Labor Day’s party.

jenny-mccarthy-2.jpgBut here’s the thing. My hero wore Jenny’s dirty laundry. She bleached the black frock out ’til it was snow white and donned it to the September 20 Resident Evil: Extinction premier.

So in true catty fashion media nature - because clearly two celebs cannot wear similar outfits and both look good - I simply must poll you: who wore it better?

Do you prefer this look on wild child turned wife and momma Jenny - classic black with a bottom hemline shine; or, on Heroes hottie Ali - chic white, with the bottom line of shine moved down to the toes?

You be the judge! …

InStyle Confirms My Opinion: Ali Larter’s a Fashionista

Tuesday, September 18th, 2007

ali-larter2.jpgApparently, I am not the only one that has been noticing Ali Larter’s new, fabulous style. InStyle picked her as one of the top five looks of the day for her shiny, red, strapless Emmy gown by Reem Acra on September 17, and again on today, September 18, for her pre-Emmy satin, blue Alberta Ferretti worn with silver Jimmy Choos, shown here. InStyle also gives you - the reader - a chance to vote on your favorite Look of the Day each day, and Ali has already commanded the day with over 40 percent of the votes (and I swear I only voted once!), and InStyle recognized her as today’s top pick out of the top five.

*Sniff* Our little Jersey, whipped-cream-bikini-wearing girl has grown up!

Just remember, I said it first: Ali Larter is becoming a style maven!

Throw Out Your Tired, Old, Wet Nail Polishes: Incoco Dry Nail Applique is Here!

Thursday, September 6th, 2007

incoco-packaging-2.jpgLast night I finished giving myself a manicure and matching pedicure just ten minutes before bedtime. I know what your thinking: “Eek! What was she thinking?” We’ve all done it - gone to bed before you nail polish was 100 percent dry and woken up with grooved sheet prints, and all that time that you spent attempting to perfect your tips goes to waste.

color_1.jpgBut ladies (and forward-thinking gentleman), no more! No more spilled bottles; no more waiting for forever for even the so-called quick dry; no more need to be able to paint with both hands. Incoco Dry color_2.jpgNail Applique makes sure that you never have to struggle again to get the perfect ten (or twenty!).

I woke up this morning with all of my nails in the exact same state of perfection as when I pressed on the rose-colored application eight hours earlier.color_3.jpg

Incoco Dry Nail Applique color enamel strips, which are available in 20 great shades and 6 additional French manicure options, can now be found (as of August) exclusively at Walgreens. The self-adhesive strips fit any and every nail: real color_4.jpgor acrylic, long or short, narrow or wide.

If you still aren’t a believer, visit the Incoco Web site where you can view a demonstration of the fast, easy, dry-from-the-getgo application. Not only that, but it is actually a base, color, and top coat all-in-one!color_5.jpg

This product is so amazing and easy-to-use, that I foresee nail salons having a serious problem keeping customers. The pictures here show you the manicure kit packaging, easy application steps, and my own nails, 24 hours after application. Believe it; go check it out at your local Walgreens … and when you return, send me your pictures of your nails!my-nails-with-incoco.JPG

Be sure to check out my update too: 12 days later it’s still going strong!

Are These Boots Made for Walking?

Tuesday, August 28th, 2007

Jessica SimpsonWe all know Jessica Simpson loves any and all boots, but what about the average style maven? Back on November 13, 2006, a former Style Fix writer wrote “It’s Not You, It’s Me. Actually, It’s You.”, an article that continues to bring in a great amount of debate and controversy.

On this day, said writer stated that she wished that thigh-high boots had “stayed on the hookers and fishermen where they belonged.”

Readers, you have been responding, and you have been heard! Many of you declared (rather knee high bootsloudly, I might add) that you are not ready now nor ever to give up these sexy steppers. What do the masses say? Well, upon sauntering around the Web for a bit, I found that there are three main distinct boot groupings abound: British babes; latex-loving, fetish femmes; and no-higher-than-the-knee, fall fashionistas of 2006.UGG boots

My search for the truth about thigh-highs doesn’t stop here; I will continue to hunt down more boot-yliciousness (or lack there of).

rain bootsBut to begin, what do you think? And not just about the upper-rising heels, tell me about ankle, cowboy, knee-high, rain, and casual boots!
