Me Look Pretty One Day
Everyone knows that an outfit isn’t complete until you factor in the hair and makeup. Look at Vanessa Williams at the Golden Globes- pretty enough dress, I think, but with that light-socket hair and applied-with-a-shovel makeup, the whole effect was ruined.
So it’s no surprise that we have to pay some attention to Spring’s hair and makeup trends a little too, even if I’m not obsessed with makeup like I am with clothing. And shoes. And jewelry. And bags.
Best Hey-I-Could-Do-That Hair: J. Mendel

I know I overuse this word, but the hair at J. Mendel was pretty. Simple and soft and just. . .pretty!
Best I-Could-Not-Do-That-Myself-But-Would-Pay-Someone-Else-A-Lot-To-Do Hair: Rodarte

I love this complicated and fancy yet soft look. It’s very nighttime without looking like an oversprayed, overdone updo.
It often seems like all eye makeup is based off the smoky eye. Either it’s a new way to do the smoky eye, or it’s an alternative to the smoky eye, or it’s the antithesis of a smoky eye. At Versace, they usually go with that first choice, and Spring 2007 was not an exception. Pat McGrath used 3 different shades of gold to achieve this season’s version, and I have to say, I think it’s beautiful. It’s dramatic and sexy, like the smoky eye, and Versace, should be, but not harsh at all.
Best Alternative To The Smoky Eye: Chanel

Sometimes you want a dramatic eye, but are just tired of reaching for your grey/black/navy/eggplant and blending your little heart out. At Chanel, artist James Kaliardos gave major drama without major smokiness by applying a strong line of silver glitter to the upper lid and a strong line of gold to the lower. It’s a gorgeous and new way of creating the drama of a smoky eye. And I love the giant organza bow.
And then sometimes you want something else altogether. At Zac Posen, Charlotte Tilbury applied a gorgeous sheer-but-rich wash of silver across the eyelid. With a matte face and lip and a bit of contour underneath the cheekbone, the effect was flawless and (here’s that word again) pretty.
Best All-Around Beauty AND Hair: Valentino

Like most women, I like things that I can apply to my real life. The look at Valentino married two current favorites of mine- skinny double-elastic headbands and gold highlighter- into an incredibly gorgeous look. The makeup by Pat McGrath-sheer red lips, softly matte skin, gold highlights- and the hair by Orlando Pita- skinny red headbands, volume at the crown, a gently messy topknot- complimented each other perfectly. I printed this picture out and hung it next to my makeup mirror, for repeated imitation.
