Peter Som Leaves Bill Blass
Fashion label Bill Blass has announced that designer Peter Som will no longer be the creative director.
Right after his graduation from Parsons School of Design, Som began gaining professional experience in the Bill Blass showroom (he had already apprenticed with Michael Kors and Calvin Klein as well). Then Peter did a few of his own collections, but returned to Blass as creative director of women’s wear in July 2007.
Now, after just one year and few months - and at least one phenomenal Blass by Som runway show - the contract between the two fashion icon-in-the-makings came to a close, and was not renewed. Peter Som has decided to go back to focusing on his own label.
“This was an extremely difficult decision for me,” Som said. “At this time, however, I have chosen to focus on my own namesake collection and the development of the Peter Som brand.”
The Blass-Som collaborations were some of my favorites and will be missed. However, this is an exciting move for Som and I know that I am not the only one waiting in anticipation of seeing Som put on a show all his own.
Congratulations to Peter Som, and lots of luck to Bill Blass as the house hunts for a new creative mind!
