Pics From Cannes Red Carpet 2007
Now I have pics!
Here’s Jude Law and Norah Jones (who made her film debut in My Blueberry Nights which is getting its premiere at the festival). Love the blue - this is a great shade for Norah, I think. Dark-haired women with lighter skin look especially lovely in darker tones. The blue is a more current alternative than classic black, which (unless jazzed up considerably - see the Polley pic below) would seem too heavy and staid for Cannes.

Sarah Polley takes the short cut with a tonal damask-like embroidered frock - the tonal contrast really updates the traditional cocktail dress. (Don’t you love the lineup of shoulders in these strapless gowns? It’s like a collection!) Toni Collette is a stunner in the raspberry Cavalli number, creating more of an hourglass figure. But the real stunning choice here is Maggie Cheung’s Givenchy number of a bright yellow-green with a sheer black overlay, muting the overall effect in a sophisticated way. The overall looks are enhanced by Chopard jewels.

Here’s Liz Hurley in her trademark scarlet with decollete focus. I don’t know about red on the red carpet. It either jarringly clashes in photos or makes you blend in to the floor. Who wants either? Still, she looks lovely.

Check out Kerry Washington, Gong Li, and Andie McDowell! They all look fabulous. Love the train on Kerry, the Grecian Goddess drape on Andie, and the gold cinched corset effect on Li’s dress. Beautiful.

Talk about the hostess with the mostess! Diane Kruger, the French actress pulling Cannes emcee duties, gracefully descends the staircase in a demure but gorgeous ivory gown with what looks to be a pale pink sash accenting a tiny waist. Very pretty.
