Tuleh: The Vassar Girl Gets Married
It’s been said that fashion editors “talk about Valentino, but wear Tuleh.” I can certainly see why in the Fall 2007 RTW collection from Bryan Bradley. Conceived as a riff on his “Vassar Girl” collection of a year ago, this show featured that pencil-skirted girl all grown up. There was the kind of understadedly sharp tailoring and a mix-and-match sensibility that one imagines a fashion editrix demands in her wardrobe. (I really wouldn’t know, but I can certainly imagine.)
There were curve-conscious jackets with exuberant fur trim, snug little cardigans over floaty dresses, tie-neck blouses in wearable shades of red and ivory, and, for a bit of humor, an adorable kiss-print dress with just the right combination of whimsy and sharp tailoring. There were also a lot of tights, a trend I noticed at 3.1 Phillip Lim and, of course, all over the place last fall as well.
Considering this was intended as an extension of an earlier collection, there was maybe not much that was new or ground-breaking, but if you were looking for functional yet elegant, versatile yet distinctive (which, I mean, who isn’t?), it was easy to find at Tuleh.
